L’immoraliste, La porte etroite et La symphonie pastrorale are the three famous works of Andre Gide, the famous writer of the 20th century. These works present the need of love Gide with the differents stypes of sexual love. So we call them "the trilogy of love". The three stories end in tragedy, which has close relation with the desire for love and the temptation in the world. If we are deep in to the text, we will find out the subconscious of Gide, the complex of the Lost Paradise. On the one hand, the pure love of Adam and Eve in the paradise is really desirable; on the other hand, it is difficult to resist the temptation. However, the contradiction results in the lonely ending. Therefore, the paper will be divided into three chapters, exploring three themes in the way thematic:the desire for love, the temptation, the solitude and their relations with the Lost Paradise. The chapter one analyzes the desire for love and its liberation with the help of four elements, such as the fertile land, the burning fire, the active water and the powerful wind. They seem to be a great web of emotion which nets the love and passion of the characters. In the second chapter, we will study the descriptions of the love and the image of the door to explore the temptations in the stories. The different comparaisons reveal the great charm of love. The title of La porte etroite suggests to us that the door is an intermediary to the beauty. The chapter three explains the solitude from two aspects of the space and the time. The illimitation of the space and the time extend the lonely feeling. In the conclusion, we will summarize the relationship between the three themes and the lost paradise, and reveal the new discovery about the three novels. In addition, we will present the idea of Gide to the human condition.
