This is a literary translation project report on an American western novel—Sin Killer. The author is Larry Mc Murtry. As the first work of Larry’s tetralogy, this novel is an important material to study the author and his written style as well as the theme. Meanwhile, it is also a strong proof that the American western novel has changed its fixed pattern. The writer chooses eight chapters as the analytical text. According to the novel’s individual characteristics, including colloquialism, various figures of speech, humorous and ironical language, the report put the analysis to words’ referential meaning, intralingual meaning and pragmatic meaning as the principal line. Guided by the relevance maxim and the equivalence principle, the writer points out translational strategies to the text which contains popularized language, rhetoric, emotional tone and proper nouns.
