Taking the source and corresponding relations of English idioms and Chinese idioms as the starting point, this thesis summarizes the cultural differences between Chinese and English idioms concerning the aspect of natural environment, history and culture, religious beliefs, and customs(including the hobbies of animals and colors) in great detail and discusses the relevant strategies of idiom teaching. Under the guidance of relevant translation theories(including dynamic equivalence theory, target oriented theory, domestication and foreignization theory), this thesis also makes a brief analysis of the strategies in English translation of Chinese idioms.Through the discussion and classification of the source of Chinese-English idioms, this thesis expounds the corresponding relationship between the cultural connotation of Chinese-English idioms for basic corresponding relationship, partial corresponding relationship and non-corresponding relationship. Based on the corresponding relationships, this thesis reveals the cultural differences between Chinese and English culture, including the cultural differences of natural environment, Chinese and western history and culture, religious beliefs, customs, habits and so on.Having elucidated the cultural differences of Chinese-English idioms, this thesis also briefly introduces relevant translation theories. Guided by the translation theories, this thesis proposes the specific translation strategies of Chinese idioms, claiming that Chinese-English idiom translation should adopt corresponding strategies regarding to their respective cultural background and connotation.
