Nowadays with the rapid development, science and technology has rapidly penetrated into all fields of human life, and greatly promoted the change of the society and the development of productive forces. To China as an example, since science and technology is the first productivity as the major principles of modernization is put forward, economy has obtained the rapid development and people’s living standards have greatly improved. But at the same time, contradiction between tool rationality and value rationality is expanding. With the alienation of people’s pursuit of material assets, value rationality has been excluded from the scope of selection of the people, the craze attendant is the pursuit of the tool rationality. Technology is created by people, should be used for the people, but the reality is the science and technology become the master, human activities is limited in the delineation of boundaries and man’s free will cannot stretch. The absolute dominance of tool rationality and the "Aphasia" of value rationality, the unbalanced development of the relationship between both of them, directly lead to the instrumentalization of humanity, Impoverishment, fragmentation and loss of subjectivity, under these circumstances, the integration of the relationship between tool rationality and value rationality has become the most important unavoidable task to be. This paper consists of three parts:The first part is the concept, connotation and logic relation of tool rationality and value rationality. Rationality is the intermediary of interaction between subject and object, meanwhile it is the ability to enable people to control the nature and society so as to obtain more diversity of the content. The tool rationality and value rationality are the effective means of people to understand and transform the world, the relationship between them is relative, dialectical, and it can be transformed into each other. Both of them play a supporting role for the healthy development of human, any one is indispensable.The second part is the analysis and causes of split between tool rationality and value rationality split. With the alienation of the pursuit of material wealth, making the tool rationality and value rationality separated from declaring war to the development of feudal religion by hand in hand to check evidence of both parties at court. They sides in the two extremes, which triggered a global ecological crisis, technological achievements abuse, human spiritual poverty and a series of problems.The third part is the integration of tool rationality and value rationality. The separation of them since the movement of enlightenment lead to the tension between human and human to nature for human and nature, also cause the problem of the loss of human spirit. All these require us to integrate their imbalance development relationship in a reasonable and effective way. To improve the imbalance will need to establish our values and world outlook, and integrate the relationship between tool rationality and value rationality effectively in the practice level.The research on the tool rationality and value rationality and its related theory aims to deeply understand the historical roots of them and explore the integration of tool rationality and value rationality to solve practical problems in contemporary society.
