Due to the grave nature and the profound impact of “Cultural Revolution”, writing about “Cultural Revolution” has become a hot topic for several generations of intellectuals. Countless writers have woven the memories during that special period in their own ways. Although for a long time, “Cultural Revolution” books have mainly been written in the mainland of China, this cannot overwhelm the works of so many overseas Chinese. On the contrary, since they are far away from China and affected by the foreign culture, books on “Cultural Revolution” in the overseas Chinese literature have displayed splendors different from domestic ones.As a person going through the dramatic period of “Cultural Revolution”, Yan Geling has been persistent and enthusiastic about writing about this painful period. Her early works are all novels on the military issues against the background of “Cultural Revolution”. In the early 1990 s, Yan Geling moved overseas. With the change in the role as a writer migrant, the narration perspective and life feelings in her writing about “Cultural Revolution” had also undergone dramatic changes. Having jumped out of the heavy political shackle, she has begun to look at history with a humanistic eyesight and pointed to the absurd era from an individualized experience. This paper focuses on the novels of Yan Geling related to “Cultural Revolution”, and starts from the writing background. First of all, the paper has illustrated the impact of “individual experience” on her individualized narration perspective with the traumatic experience of the writer. Secondly, it has analyzed the reflection of individual subject consciousness with a lot of human sympathy such as survival predicament, “heroism” value and intellectual’s pursuit of freedom. The paper has also studied and discussed the writing form for reflecting the time and deconstructing the history based on the unique female concept and from a female perspective.
