A Report On The Translation Of In The Light Of Humane Nature

Translation of popular science texts occupies an important position in the translation of style of science and technology. Translating of outstanding foreign popular science texts can favor the dissemination of scientific knowledge and improve the scientific and cultural qualities of the public. This is a report on the translation of In the Light of Humane Nature.After completing the translation task, the translator made a reflection on the basics of the whole process of the translation as well as the problems arose. Then the report was completed.There are five parts in this report:The first part is the introduction. The translator presents the purpose and the meaning of this translation as well as the background of the writer and his book.The second part is task description. In this chapter, the translator analyzes the nature and characteristics of the original as well as the requirements of it. The popular science text is precise and rigorous just as the science and technology text. So the translation also should be like this. Meanwhile, the popular science has its own features and translator should translate its literariness and interestingness.The third part is process description. The process description is divided into pre-translation preparation, execution of the translation and post translation.The fourth part is case analysis. In this part, the translator makes a reflection of the process of the translation from the lexical level and the syntactic level. The lexical level mainly involves the translation of the terminology and its translation methods. The syntactic level involves the translation of passive sentences, long sentences and tenses transformation as well as the corresponding translation techniques.In the last part, the conclusion, the translator summarizes the inspirations and the problems to be overcame of the process of the translation. The translator hopes to give some inspirations to the translation of environmental popular science texts. At the same time, the translator hopes to make contribute to popularize environmental knowledge.
