Taking the film text of The Lord of the Rings as the entry point, this paper has conducted a comprehensive and systematic research on The Lord of the Rings series of films about how to build "The Middle Earth", the whole world and society’s "law of motion", the relationship within the various ethnic groups, as well as between different ethnic groups. By comparing it with other domestic fantastic movies, this paper has pointed out the shortcomings of domestic fantastic movies in aspect of the world view construction.This paper has adopted research methods as:combined macro and micro methods, text analysis and comparative study methods, and systematic and emphasis methods.The achievements of this paper are stated as below. Firstly, this paper summarizes the history, geography, ethnic, and social relations of Secondly, The Lord of the Rings series of novels and "The Middle Earth" in the movie. Thirdly, this paper analyzes similarities and differences between The Lord of the Rings and other western fantastic movie series on the establishment of the world view, character setting, theme presentation, and narrative patterns, by using comparative study method. At last, through comparison with domestic fantastic movies by comparative study method, this paper states The Lord of the Rings series of films have a vital significance for China’s fantastic movies.From the research of the construction of "The Middle Earth" in the movie The Lord of the Rings, this paper draws the conclusion that fantastic movie’s success lies in the success of the world view construction. If the world view is not built perfectly from "time","space", or "consciousness", this fantastic movie is bound to fail.
