Recently, with increasing attentions on China’s politics, economy and culture, China has emerged as one of the leading voices to spur collective action on various global issues. Meanwhile, Chinese government is committed to improving self-image and tries efforts to optimize the political publicity. Therefore, the quality of C-E translation of Report on the Work of the Government (RWG) is very significant.Combined with the qualitative and quantitative research, this thesis attempts to make approaches to the following research questions based on self-made RWG corpus and State of the Union Address (SUA) corpus.1) What are the differences in lexis between RWG corpus and SUA corpus?2) Under the guidance of Eco-Translatology, how to reduce the differences and make the RWG C-E translation in lexis more idiomatic to the target readers in English-speaking countries? According to the data analysis of two corpora from specific characteristics of language translation, the thesis finds that RWG C-E translation in lexis is not so idiomatic as SUA and less acceptable to the target readers in English-speaking countries, which is elaborated in the following aspects:difficult in contents comprehension, low word variability, more information capacity and few function words. The thesis summarizes the problems of RWG C-E translation in lexis as follows:1) asymmetry of lexical translation in information;2) redundancy of lexical translation in expressions;3) deficiency of lexical translation in cultural information. Most problems of RWG C-E translation in lexis are caused by translators’ lack of adaptation and selection in the process of translating. Translators should focus on the dynamic RWG C-E translation in lexis and change with the current situations at home and abroad. Based on self-made corpora, the thesis intends to make tentative approaches to the RWG C-E translation in lexis from linguistic, communicative and cultural dimensions and tries to come up with appropriate suggestions.
