A Comparative Study On Two Chinese Translations Of Dickinson’s Poems From The Perspective Of Aesthetic Reprouction

Emily Dickinson is one of the most important poets in America. The passion of many Chinese readers to her is attributed to Chinese translation and study of Dickinson’s poems. There are different versions of Chinese translation. This thesis compares two Chinese versions by Mr. Jiang Feng and Mr. Yu kwang-chung from the perspective of aesthetic reproduction. The methods used are data-collection and textual analysis. Aesthetic reproduction requires translators to reproduce meaning, form and rhyme, image description, style and character of aesthetic objects. In conclusion, Mr. Yu values reproduction of rhythm, picturesque words and his own color, but sometimes his translation derives from the original meaning. Mr. Jiang Feng’s translation reproduces form, meaning and style of Dickinson. But his translation loses some rhyme and keeps the order of English sentences. This thesis compares two translation versions from a new perspective to inspire translators in the future.
