| In the field of today’s Chinese literature in the world, Hong Ying is a femalewriter cannot be neglected. Hong Ying won a lot of international literary awards in theoverseas, and her literary works had also achieved good sales performance, that is tosay, she got the two-sided recognition from critics and market. However, comparingwith the brilliant performance in the overseas, Hong Ying’s status in domestic literaryworld seemed somewhat embarrassed. She is famous now,but always accompanied bycontroversy, and the critics and academia had not attached great importance toher.Through the study of her works, I find that she does lack something that thefirst-class writers should have. She does have some problems in her novel composing,namely, the so-called obstacle.In this paper, starting from the theory of several different angles, trying to revealwhat had hindered the talented writer to develop to a higher level. Except theintroduction and conclusion, this paper is divided into three chapters. The introductionmainly introduces the writer’s personal experience, and the situations at home andabroad literature world, pointing out the existence of obstacles in her works, andintroduces the recent domestic research situation about Hong Ying and her works.The main part of this paper discusses the obstacles in Hong Ying’s novelcomposing from three aspects. The first chapter discusses the "Self Orientalism"tendency in her works. First of all, I interpret the concept of "Orientalism" and "SelfOrientalism", and point out that the phenomenon of catering to Westerners’ tastes inHong Ying’s works.The first section, discusses Hong Ying exaggerated Chinese sexdesire and ability, and the problem of human nature is attributed to culturaldifferences. What’s more, she also has inferiority complex about Chinese culturewhen faces western culture. The second section discusses Hong Ying’s description on the Chinese poor and backward life and the terrible human nature in politicalmovement. The third section discusses Hong Ying’s description on marvelousspectacle of China.The second chapter discusses the commercial kitsch tendency in Hong Ying’sworks. This part also elaborates from three aspects. Firstly, driven by the commercialinterest, she composes erotic novels to cater to the reader’s desire for consumption.Secondly, she rewrites and consumes the history, and her novels in part are thecarnival of literature between writer and readers. Thirdly, she composes the types ofnovels, and fabricates the popular stories.The third chapter discusses the problem of Hong Ying’s defect on using the lifeexperiences and art experience from the perspective of literary theory. At thebeginning of this chapter, I introduce the concept of the life experiences and artexperience, and then analyze this from three aspects. Firstly, trying to explore thecontribution and fault of Hong Ying’s "personal" complex, points out her use of thelife experience not only have credits, also have regrets. Secondly, she is good atselecting the subject of novel, but she sometimes cannot make a good command ofthese subjects. Thirdly, combining her life experience, and discusses the phenomenonand causes of her weakening of literary creation. The final conclusion part carries onthe summary to the full text. |
