Subsequently, thenon-English major students from Changchun Normal University are chosen as theexperimental objects. They are from two classes and they have approximate gradesbefore the test. One class is taught by introducing the cohesion theory as experimentalgroup, and the other class is the comparison one, the students of which still receivelectures on English listening teaching with the traditional teaching method. Threemonths later, students from the two classes are tested. Then the author analyzes theexperiment results, and draws the conclusion. Questionnaires and interviews, servingas auxiliary methods, are employed to make a further understanding on students’learning situation and psychological situation in two different kinds of teaching ways. Finally the statistical analysis is made by SPSS, qualitative and quantitative analysesare also used comprehensively.Through the analysis of the experiment above, the author draws the conclusionthat the following cohesive devices frequently occur in the CET-4listening part, andthe frequency of each cohesive devices from high to low is: reference, conjunction, lexical cohesion, ellipsis, substitution, and implicit cohesion. Reference manifestsitself more than others. What’s more, listening teaching which uses the cohesion theory is more effective than the traditional teaching in raising the students’ scoresand the application of cohesion theory in TCEL can enhance the students’enthusiasm,At the same time, their listening ability can also be promoted.
