At the background of the industry transferring and the adjustment of industrialstructure in the global, culture trade is developing rapidly, more and more becomesinto one of the most important part in the international trade. On the whole, comparedwith some developed countries or areas, relatively speaking, China’s service trade islagging behind and is in the trade deficit level. However, in2010, Shanghai’s servicetrade volume broke forty billion and the culture trade volume was9.7billion whichaccounted for nearly1/4of the total export volume and lay the first among the servicetrade of Shanghai and the whole country, as well as one of the few culture tradesurplus cities. The Twelfth Five Year Plan period is the important time for Shanghaito rapidly form the industrial structure of service economy, developing the culturetrade vigorously plays a very important role in realizing the adjustment of industrialstructure and the transformation of the economy and society. Meanwhile, the culturetrade will become into an important energy to promote the innovation drive,transition and development of Shanghai.This paper systematically discusses the relationship between culture trade andShanghai’s economic transition mainly from theory and empirical aspects. Firstly,review the literature and introduce the theoretical basis from three items of theculture trade, the development of the city’s economic transition, the relationshipbetween the culture trade and the development of the city’s economic transition.Secondly, research on the relationship between the culture trade and the developmentof the city’s economic transition, this chapter involves three aspects. the definition andcharacteristics of the culture trade, the mechanism of the culture trade and thedevelopment of the city’s economic transition, the path of the influence of the culturetrade in the development of the city’s economic transition, which lays the theoreticalfoundation for the following research, Thirdly, the empirical analysis of the culturetrade and the development of the city’s economic transition, specifically analysis theadvantages, disadvantages, opportunities and challenges of the development of theShanghai’s culture trade, current situation and economy development. What’s more, the empirical analysis of culture trade and the development of the city’s economictransition. Fourthly, suggestions about the policy of the culture trade from advancedcountries like America and Korea. At last, the conclusions and policy suggestions.The main conclusions are as follows: the culture trade promotes the transition ofShanghai, and effects the transition of Shanghai through five ways:(1) the culturetrade effects the economy of the city through expanding the total economic volumeand optimizing the economic structure;(2) the culture trade effects the city’s opendegree through widening the market open degree;(3) the culture trade effects theresidents’ consumption through improving the quality of the consumption;(4) theculture trade effects the image of the city through forming the city’s brand;(5) theculture trade effects the society through improving the employment structure and thequality of the population.
