Dietary behaviors are of great significance for normalphysiology activities of human beings. Thus, it’s very necessary to have studieson diet verbs. The thesis took diet verbs in both Chinese and Russian as studyobject. It studied Chinese and Russian diet verbs from the perspective ofscientific definitions, semantic analysis and semantic classifications. Besides, athorough comparative study on the semantic valence and the inter-translation of“V+N†of complete diet verbs in Chinese and Russian was made. The thesis first put forward the definition and classification of diet verbs inboth Chinese and Russian languages with the help of linguistic spatiality, verbaldirectivity and dictionary definitions. Then a semantic field and a semanticstructure tree were constructed following a semantic analysis on diet verbs inChinese and Russian languages based on the semantic field theory. After that, acomparative study was conducted on the semantic valences of complete dietverbs “åƒ/еÑть†and “å–/пить†in Chinese and Russian, respectively, inaccordance with the semantic valence theory and contrastive linguistics, and thenthe underlying reasons for the similarities and differences were explored. At last, the inter-translation of complete diet verbs “V+N†between Chinese and Russianunder several circumstances was analyzed in details by means of translationtheory, which further verified and interpreted the application of syntaxequivalence, semantic equivalence and pragmatic equivalence and reaffirmed thesignificance of combination of linguistic and cultural translation theories. With the study of complete diet verbs in Chinese and Russian, the specificlexical semantics research will be deepened. Also, it’s helpful to promote thestudy of verbs semantic valence and translation theory.
