Interviews can usually be arranged in written forms based on their content. In interviews, journalists often put questions to one or more persons. Therefore, such texts tend to be colloquial and communication-oriented, using a great deal of deixis. Deixis is considered as one of the most important topics in pragmatic study because its meaning can only be understood in view of the specific context. There are many differences between English deixis and Chinese deixis. So in terms of the translation of deixis, translators cannot just focus on the semantic plane, but take communicators and context into consideration to achieve the maximal pragmatic equivalence in translation.Pragmatic translation, the combination of pragmatics and translation theories, is in essence meant to approach the equivalence of translation. Pragmatic equivalence in translation can be divided into pragma-linguistics oriented and socio-pragmatics oriented. The thesis takes An Interview with Chuck Jones as an example and analyzes the translation of person deixis in the text from the perspective of pragmatic equivalence. It is found that pragmatic equivalence of person deixis translation from source language to target language can only be achieved when translators get a good understanding of context and pragmatic differences in two languages.
