On Metaphor Of Li Shangyin’s Poetic Images

Poetry of the Tang Dynasty is the great treasure of Chinese culture and the most valuable resources in the history of literature, which enjoys a unprecedented status in the society of Tang Dynasty. As an outstanding poet in late Tang Dynasty, Li Shangyin was quite famous in the era he lived and known as "Little Li and Du" together with Du Mu. There are more than600poems written by Li Shangyin left, which are the marks of his living orbits, ideological exploration and emotional injection, and the previous heritage he left to later generations. From poems of Li Shangyin, most products are meaningful with a lot of literary quotations, but his emotions are sincere and deep. Many scholars have interprets Li’s poems by different ways, but most are based on stylistic study of traditional language classification and easy to be conventional. This paper adopts a cognitive method of metaphor, studies poetic images of Li Shangyin from an original and basic language style and thinking mode, so as to better explore deep connotations of Li Shangyin’s poetic images.The main contents of this paper study the metaphor characteristics of Li Shangyin’s poetic images, classify and summarize characteristics of Li Shangyin’s poetic metaphorical images by utilizing relevant theories of metaphor. To understand Li Shangyin’s poetic metaphorical images from the perspective of cognition, it has the following realistic significance:1. To understand Li Shangyin’s poems from the cognitive metaphor, it can strengthen perception of poetic images, greatly awaken our attention to life experience and represent vivid experience of poetry by understood experience.2. To look for connection and integration with metaphor in creations of Li Shangyin, it can enable metaphor to be integrated into analysis of poetic images better, so as to help us to better understand and find the unique charm of poetry.This paper mainly aims at stimulating readers’imagination and creativity by hidden metaphor in poetic images, forming a relationship between human and poetic images and expanding the metaphor significance of poetic images. By research, we can draw the following conclusions:1. The poetic metaphorical images of Li Shangyin should be redivided into the two types:poetic images with similar metaphor and poetic images with different metaphorIn poems of Li Shangyin, the similar metaphorical images have two basic characteristics:interaction between ontology and vehicle(from the perspective of generating process of metaphor) and substitutability (from the perspective of metaphor’s essential functions).2. Two fundamental characteristics of different metaphorical images:integration between source domain and target domain and "co-occurrence".
