This thesis chooses modern Chinese “ziji”,“ziger”,“zijia”,“zishen”,“ziwo”,“benren” and “benshen” as the main study objects, investigating and studyingthem one by one.The thesis studies syntactic distribution, pragmatic functions, objects ofreference and semantic features of modern Chinese reflexives. The thesis is divided into four parts. The first part is an introduction. For the present research studies of Chinesereflexive pronoun, many scholars have only considered "ziji" as reflexive pronoun, but there are scholars who admit Chinese reflexive pronouns also include other wordsand they have described them but not in depth. This article will analyze them from thepragmatic and semantic perspective. Researching methods of this thesis mainlyinclude the combination of description and explanation, the combination ofsynchronic and diachroni, the combination of static and dynamic binding, etc. Thedata is collected from the Modern Chinese Corpus of Chinese Language ResearchCenter of Peking University. In the second part, based on previous researching, the author conducts thediachronic investigation of “ziji”,“ziger”,“zijia”,“zishen”,“ziwo”,“benren” and“benshen”, combining the diachronic investigation and the synchronic combing,to comb the result of their development. The third part firstly inspects syntactic distribution of modern Chinese reflexives, that is, whether they can serve as sentence elements such as subject, object, attribute, appositive, adverbial, etc., trying to make full of observation, description andexplanation, focusing on the discovery of the language fact, and making full use of thecorpus, as far as possible to collect exhaustive data. Secondly, when the staticdescription of the language fact is conducted, it is put into the specific context and is dynamical analyzed, that is, its special usage in the language of expression issummarized from a pragmatic point of view.In the fourth part, the author tries to give a reasonable explanation for thesyntactic distribution and the differences in usage from the semantic point of view, including the alleged objects and semantic features.
