The Art Of Waste

Waste refers to the materials that have lost its practical value in the present productionlife of human society. Each type of waste ever had a glamorous past, they are produced andcreated by human beings, which were commodities, and they are the crystallization of scienceand technology, and the home of mankind. Waste contains a symbolic, emotional and realisticsignificance in the culture of human society. Industrial waste can represent the consumerculture and technological level of an era. Architectural ruins can carry the memory of humanfor history, and household garbage can extend the evil of human desires and the reflection onthe industrialization.Waste does not have a natural beauty as a kind of common thing. However, in the20thcentury in the art, there were a lot of artists trying to make the scrap and garbage into scrapcollages and composite art. The artists took the readily available waste as a totem of modernculture, and these artistic practices regarded the finished production of waste as a kind ofmaterial of creation. My painting is created based on the theme of waste. The image contentof waste plays an important role in my paintings. In order to faithfully reflect the image ofwaste, I adhere to shape the work with the means of realistic painting. Because of the particularity of the texture of waste, they show roughness, incompleteness and irregularityvisually, so the realistic method which is able to show all factors is the best choice. The wastetheme provides two ways in the art creation activities: ready-made materials and the paintingimage.Waste also has some features in artistic activities. As the ready-made materials, waste hasa truth of heterogeneity with practical environment. The theme of waste belongs to the imagereproduction during the process of painting creation. Without the limitations of natural beauty,waste needs to be attached to the author’s aesthetic intentions so as to achieve the artisticidentity. This paper aims to clarify the value of waste in terms of both cultural spirit andartistic creation. In the last chapter, I will analyze the aesthetic of my painting works.
