Judgments of Learning (that is JOL, namely) is an typical form of metamemory monitoring judgment, which is a predictability judgment of the recollect in the later recall test done by the individuals after learning. JOL are considered important aspects of human learning because they are believed to guide the allocation of study time and thereby improve subsequent memory performance. The cue-utilization mode think that the nature of JOL is use various cues to make inferences, and intrinsic and extrinsic cues have different effects on JOL.Intrinsic cues have significant effects on JOL and memory performance,However, the impact of the extrinsic cues on JOL is less than the effect on memory performance. So JOL are more sensitive to intrinsic cues than extrinsic cues. Previous studies on this point still have controversy. Therefore,in the present study,we will focus on explore whether JOL would really be less sensitive to extrinsic cues than intrinsic cues. This study introduced the production effect in the research of memory, to explore the production effect in JOL,to prove that JOL will be sensitive to extrinsic cues of production.and to test whether its sensitivity would be weaker than the intrinsic cues of semantic association.Experiment I took the form of single factor within subjects design, investigate the sensitivity of JOL to production cues,to verify that production not only have significant effects on memory performance, but also have significant effects on JOL.The experiment results show that,(1) The production have significant influence on the memory performance, the read aloud word pairs yield significantly better cued recall than did the read-silently word pairs.(2)The production also have significant influence onJOL,the read aloud word pairs were reliably greater than JOLs in the read-silently word pairs, but the PA value of read aloud and read silently were significantly greater than zero* tend to overestimate. Experiment 2 took the form of two factor completely within subjects design.Based on the production cues in experiment 1 experiment 2 added the semantic association cues and at the same time showed intrinsic and extrinsic cues to explored whether the sensitivity of JOL to production cues would be weaker than the semantic association cues. The result of experiment 2 showed,(1)The JOLs and memory performance of meaningful word pairs were significantly higher than meaningless word pairs, the JOLs and memory performance of read aloud word pairs were significantly higher than read-silently word pairs. This indicated that the sensitivity of JOL to production cues were not weaker than the semantic association cues.(2)Under the reading aloud condition, the PA value of meaningful word pairs and meaningless word pairs were significantly greater than 0;under the reading silently condition, the PA value of meaningful word pairs and meaningless word pairs were also significantly greater than O.This suggested that under various conditions participants tend to overestimate when did JOL.In general, the experiment results were doubt of the cue-utilization mode.
