Since 1986, Medicine for the Outdoors has been honored as the most authoritative handbook which people can carry about. The author of this book is Paul S. Auerbach, Doctor of Medicine, Master of Science, who is regarded as the leading authority of medicine in the world. The characteristic of the fifth edition is to update the newest infectious diseases and the newest medicine to cure those diseases, and at the same time emphasize how to use the materials.Ten translators were responsible for the translation of the book, which would be published by a certain press of Jiangsu province. As a member of the translation team, the author was in charge of the translation of the fourth part which contains 14 thousand words. The main contents are as follows:when people doing outdoors activities are bitten by insects such as centipedes, mosquitoes, flies and so on, what emergency action they should take in order to prevent infection; when people going outside encounter lightning strikes, volcanoes, avalanches and so on, what action and self-help-methods they should take in order to save their lives. In the process of this project translation, the main difficulties the author faced are the problems of terminology appearing in the medical English and the treatment of long and complex sentences. This project tries to analyze the stylistic characteristics of Medical English from the point of stylistics and to put forward some advice about the issues of words and sentences in translation on the basis of this feature. The author discovers through this project that because the translation of medicine belongs to the area of expertise, the translators should pay attention to the accumulation of the relative medical words, prefix, suffix and roots, meanwhile they should practice the abilities to analyze sentences and divide the long and complex sentences in order to deal with the emerging problems in medical translation.
