The history of national percussion music, which is the earliestmusical instrument of earlier human civilization, can trace back toancient age. The music of primitive society is not only used inworship ceremony, but also a sacred symbol for consecrating. Asthe change and development of Chinese percussion music in itsthousand-year history, it has gradually formed the fold percussionmusic with local character.Imposing percussion, which is originated at Yaodu district,Linfen City, Shanxi Province, is a folk traditional excellent artthrough five thousand years’ cultural inheritance of Huaxia and theexpression of Chinese national spirit. Vast loess plateau andflowing on Yellow River breeds imposing percussion, a stirring folkarts, which is frequently applied in the activities of welcoming god,festival celebration, etc, whose unique art performance conqueredthe masses. After the reform and opening-up, some professionalliterary and art workers started to clear up and research imposingpercussion, and organized professional percussions to promote thisunique art form to walk out Yaodu and go to the world. It showed upin the forties anniversary of National Day, peasant games in1998, and Asian Games in1990in1990s, so it became famous. It waslisted in intangible cultural heritage of our country in the year2006.The author referred to historical materials, had field visit,interviewed imposing percussion artists of contemporary era,applied the research methods of ethnomusicology includinganthropology, sociology, folklore and so on, to try the best to masteroverall document, have deep inspection with the imposingpercussion in history and nowadays. He had careful analysis fromhistorical origin and music subject combining with the inspection ofauthor on the surviving environment and development situation ofimposing percussion in market economy, and the influence toimposing percussion after cultural system reform, so that he triedto provide effective realistic basis and research reference to thepreservation and development of imposing percussion to attractmore percussion fans to join the inheritance of this unique musicalart.
