It is widely accepted that traditional recitation is necessary in second language acquisition. According to Krashen’s second language acquisition theory, comprehensible input is of vital importance in second language learning. If traditional recitation is based on comprehensible input, then it is a useful language learning method. Memes are replicators, mainly done by imitation. Memes and language learning have close relationship, and language itself, to a certain degree, is a meme. In accordance with the characteristics of the meme, linguistic memes may reveal developmental patterns of language learning, and thus providing a theoretical basis and method for second language learning.This essay is based on the theory of the memes to investigate the application of recitation in primary English learning. This essay mainly covers the research background, research purpose and systematically introduces the theories of the memes, and relevant theories of recitation input in detail. In order to ensure the validity of the research results, the subjects of the study are junior middle school students. Research methods are classroom experiments together with interviews. Data are collected from students’ oral English learning in Chinese junior middle school.By analyzing the experimental data, it is found that the application of recitation is beneficial for primary second language learning, and it seems that the application of traditional recitation in primary oral English learning is practicable under the perspective of memetics. Based on this, suggestions of some revelations about English learning and some advices about oral English teaching are put forward.
