Since 20 th century, Tony Morrison has been the most prominent and successful African American writer. She is awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for her outstanding achievements in writing and becomes the first black female writer to win this award. Beloved is her fifth novel and is regarded as the most successful novel. Since its publication in New York in 1987, Beloved has gained a big success in American Literature. Quantities of critics have studied this novel from different angles and have obtained many valuable achievements.Looking back at the achievements home and abroad, the author finds there are rare researches from the perspective of abnormal black family relationships in Beloved. In order to reveal the tragedy of black people?s survival and its causes in Beloved, the thesis tries to discuss the abnormal black family relationships in the light of Lewin?s group dynamics theory and analyze the characteristic of black families under slavery. Through detailed analysis, the thesis detects that the abnormal black family relationships in Beloved attribute to the persecution of slavery and the exclusion by the community deliberately. Worse still, it leads to abnormalities of black individuals. Therefore, the thesis draws a conclusion that the individual member has an inseparable relationship with the community. Only in the community and by receiving the help from the community can black individuals realize their identities and get out of the living dilemma. In a word, it is a must for black individual members to rely on black group to get out of it and realize the self-liberation. Meanwhile, by accepting the history and acknowledging one?s own cultural belief can black individuals seek out the living tactic and survive positively.
