With the revival and development of shipping, more and more people pay close attention to maritime news. Reading maritime news is relatively convenient and fast way to learn about the newest tendency of shipping and related knowledge for the maritime English learners and operators in the domain of shipping. Reading maritime news headlines is a comparatively faster method to grasp key points.The Maritime News Headlines Corpus is collected in this thesis from news headlines of the official websites of the world’s leading maritime organizations, classification societies. With the aid of AntConc, WordSmith, FoxPro and CLAWS4, the thesis investigates stylistic features of maritime news headlines in the aspect of four levels of stylistics, that is, graphological level, lexical level, syntactical level and rhetorical level. The findings show that, in the aspect of graphological level, the hyphen is the most frequently used among common punctuation marks. As to the lexical level,3-letter words,4-letter words and 5-letter words are more often employed than other words. In addition, the frequency of nouns is highest among all parts of speech. In the aspect of the syntactical level, the simple present tense has the highest frequency of use. The infinitive is more commonly used than the form will do when the future tense is used in headlines of maritime news. Additionally, the active voice is much more frequently used than the passive voice in headlines of maritime news. Besides, the omissions of different forms of be are often employed in maritime news headlines. As to the rhetorical level, metaphor and personification are also employed in order to draw the readers’ eyes.The results and findings of this thesis have a referential significance for maritime English learners, writers of maritime news headlines and operators in the domain of shipping.
