"Suicide For Love" Tragedies In Edo Era

"Shinjuu" is a special social phenomenon in recent Edo era,especially of which the Genroku period helped"Shinjuu"become the unique statement for "suicide for love".In the literature history of Edo era, "suicide for love" tragedies arose at the lechery and compliment wave stirred up by the emerging Japanese merchant class.This thesis tries to organize the connotations of "Shinjuu"in different phases by brushing up the development process of the concept of Shinjuu" in order to reveal its origin. Besides, this thesis also illustrates the root of "suicide for love" tragedies in the Genroku period of Edo era through two famous "suicide for love" plays of Chikamatsu Monzaemon——"Sonezakishinjuu"and"Double Suicide".At last,this thesis will probe into the beauty of the "sui"distinct essence hidden behind "suicide for love" tragedies, the secular view to enjoy pleasure in good time and free equal view about life.
