The thesis focuses on the function of purposes of translators by introducing the periods and education the two cross-straits translators had experienced as well as their principles of translation. Both versions are excellent on the whole. Pan Jiaxun’s version covers many Chinese literary expressions while Liu Senyao’s version emphasizes on the modern ways of dialogue. The thesis makes a conclusion about the common points, different translation strategies, advantages and disadvantages about two versions through Chinese versions comparison, so as to help other translators do research about the translation of Ibsen’s plays.
