Press conference is a vital platform for China to communicate with the world. However, with rich culture information, culture-loaded expressions in C-E Interpretation of the conference became the biggest factor that influenced the quality of Interpreting. This thesis aims at the research of C-E Interpretation of culture- loaded expression in press conference from the perspective of functional equivalence theory. On the basis of Nida’s functional equivalence theory, the author puts the reaction of the audience at the first place and takes the audience’s understanding and cognition into consideration. And functional equivalence pursuits closest and natural equivalence in content and form. Therefore, the interpreter should analyze differences of culture-loaded expressions in SL and TL from the view of culture, content and form. Accordingly, the interpreter can generally divide Culture-loaded words into two types. If literal interpretation can achieve functional equivalence in designative as well as associative meaning and will not arouse the audience’s misunderstanding, then literal interpretation is acceptable. However, if literal interpretation can not gain functional equivalence in designative or associative meaning and will lead to the audience’s misunderstanding, then some adjustments are needed, such as, free interpretation, borrowing or literal interpretation plus explanation. Therefore, culture-loaded words will not be obstacles in the communication. This thesis targets at providing a fresh view on the study of functional equivalence, and offering theory support for interpreting study.
