The Research On Yuchuanyuan

There are many long narrative works, such as a large number of epics written by female writers in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. This kind of long narrative literary form is called Tanci novel written by women in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. This boudoir Tanci novel has even become the prevalence of women’s literary creation in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. However, in the contemporary research field of China’s Tanci novel, the study on Yuchuanyuan which is a Tanci work written by a female writer in the Ming and Qing Dynasties hasn’t been paid much attention by the literary field. Thus, this paper will fundamentally studies Yuchuanyuan, the Tanci heritage, and confirms the value of literary phenomenon represented by female Tanci literature in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.This paper generally analyze its specific historical and cultural period, regional background, creation motivation, textual research on its writer and edition and the women’s fantastic expression which is fully showed in the Yuchuanyuan and women’s strong desire to leave a name behind. Meanwhile, this paper will demonstrate the artistic value and impact of Yuchuanyuan, thus indicating its profound and lasting significance in the literary history of women’s Tanci novel in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.This paper focuses on the source of Tanci and analysis of evolution. Through textual research on the evolution of Tanci, we can infer that a kind of Young Lady’s Tanci Novel was created during its gradual development which is only be read in the study and written by female writers. By defining the stylistic characteristics and properties of women’s Tanci novel, we can classify Yuchuanyuan according to its literary form.Secondly, this paper generally introduces Yuchuanyuan’s version and content. It deals with the author’s lifetime and her general creation condition. By describing her autobiography in the preface and the last volume, the paper discusses its creation motivation of handing down from age to age, pleasing herself and others searching for bosom friends and its special creation background in the south of the Yangtze River.Besides, this paper regards it as its core part that how Yuchuanyuan expresses women’s dream when they lose their rights to speak on their own. Under that condition, the author truly described women’s life from her female view and their painful struggle with polygamy system in the feudal society. Therefore, they had strong desires to criticize polygamy and longed for monogamy. This work also created a lot of talented women and heroines fighting in the battle, which showed author’s desire to speak for women and to improve women’s status and value.At last, the paper analyses autobiographical narrative skills, linguistic style of verse, subtle design of plots, exquisite psychological description and huge and rigorous stylistic structure, with an attempt to having a deep understanding of Yuchuanyuan.Since this work is written by women and shows strong desire to speak for women almost everywhere in this text, the author’s appeal for women who had no right to speak but hoped to be equal to men was the loudest voice at that age. At the same time, by analyzing its artistic achievements, this paper represents the unique literary value of this female Tanci novel.
