A Report On The Translation Of Developing A Personal Saxophone Sound

This report is based on the translation task of Developing A Personal Saxophone Sound, an academic treatise in musicology. Under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory, the translator employed certain translation techniques in the translation process in an attempt to achieve equivalence at the lexical, syntactical and textual levels. The report consists of five parts. Chapter One is an overview of the translation report, including the background, requirements, significance of the translation task, as well as the structure of this report. Chapter Two introduces the content of the source text, analyzes its stylistic characteristics, and sets up the theoretical framework, namely the functional equivalence theory. Chapter Three describes the translation process, including the translation preparation, translating and quality control. Chapter Four is case analysis, which lists the main difficulties in the translation process and the corresponding solutions and analyzes the application of the functional equivalence theory and translation techniques. This chapter is the focal point of this report. Chapter Five concludes the report by summarizing the findings of this translation practice and pointing out problems yet to be solved.
