Beauty is a feeling of some things, but beautiful things are not immutable, because beauty is always a feeling of change over time in different environment. In today’s pluralistic era, people’s aesthetic standards are being rebuilt: either the evaluation of human facial features or visual style of appreciation are changing. Mass cultural products reflected aesthetic standards, carrying the aesthetic values of cultural changes. At the same time, popular culture products have an impact on the public aesthetic values. What is the relationship between them, and how to affect each other? This article selects the magazine covers as the research object to explore the links between aesthetic values and evaluation of public magazine cover.Research one selected magazine cover of women as the material in the thirty years of reform and opening up, decomposed cover facial features and the overall style from the microscopic point of view, and classified these features, then developed the female coding table of magazine cover. The female coding table is a research tool,332cover images across different age are encoded by it. The result found the variation tendency in different time, and analyzed the different factors that influence fashion trends through comparison between different magazine types. Finally, the research combined with specific background to explore the development characteristics and reasons of evolution for these changes.Research two discussed the public aesthetic values. First, through literature conceived the theoretical framework for public aesthetic values, and then released the open questionnaire, collected and sorted beautiful things which most people agree with, using qualitative and quantitative research methods, prepared the aesthetic values questionnaire. After exploratory factor analysis found that aesthetic values contain five factors, namely individual external aesthetic orientation, individual intrinsic aesthetic orientation, interpersonal aesthetic orientation, lifestyle aesthetic orientation, material pursuit aesthetic orientation. Using confirmatory factor analysis of questionnaire to explore and validate the structure of the questionnaire survey showed that reliability and validity indices of the aesthetic values questionnaire are good, theoretical structure is reasonable and applicable. On the other hand, In order to make further investigation of the public aesthetic values, aesthetic objects are prepared to sort problems, through factor analysis found that the aesthetic values of different groups of people are different.Research three refer to literature information, issuing an open questionnaire to evaluate the popular magazine cover, the results were analyzed with the preparation of magazine covers assessment form. Then subjects were asked to fill in the aesthetic value scale, and browse30magazine cover images to pick out a favorite and least favorite picture, finally assess the two magazine covers selected. Data will be collected to be analyzed with the evaluation, the result found that the relationship exist between the public aesthetic values and the evaluation of magazine covers.Finally, the limitations of the present research were discussed; the future directions, theoretical implications and practical value of this paper were provided.
