As a translation report, this text summarizes the translation methods the author has adopted in translating the long sentences in the 5th,17th-19 th parts of Companies Act(1993) of New Zealand. Companies Act(1993) of New Zealand is an important part in Western law, but the research of this Act is rather rare. The author hopes the translating of this Act could provide people with a better way to understand this law. Long sentence is a difficult problem in the translation of legislative texts, so the study of long sentences translation methods is quite necessary. In this translation report, the author first makes a brief introduction to the background, the preparation, and the significance of the project. Then he gives a literature review of the concerned study, including the features of English long sentences and their Chinese translation as well as the long sentences in legislative texts. On this basis, the author discusses in detail the two translation methods adopted in translating the long sentences in the legislative text: translating according to the structure of the original English sentences and translating according to the Chinese time or logic order. Finally the author summarizes the experience and lessons the author has learned in the translation process and the problems to be solved in the future.
