Research into input frequency has received increasing attention in recent years and empirical studies have been carried out to look into its effects in different areas. This study aims to investigate the effects of input frequency on the EFL vocabulary acquisition. Combined with the discussion of input frequency from other authors, this paper intends to research two questions:1. How input frequency affects EFL vocabulary acquisition?2. Which improves the vocabulary acquisition better, the chunk-based input or the word-based input? And what is the best frequency? Two classes of 128 students in Yanggao High School participated in the test. Two groups followed the similar procedures. The words in the word list were selected as the target words. Students were demanded to underline the target words when reading the text for the first time (i.e. word-based input). Students of group two were asked to underline the relevant lexical chunk, if it exists (i.e. chunk-based input). At the end of the term, the tests were carried out. The author selected the template designed by Ma Guanghui to test. After the test,12 students were interviewed. Data analysis yielded the following findings:1. Input frequency did have positive effects on EFL vocabulary acquisition.2. In the process of vocabulary acquisition, on the whole, chunk-based input shows better effect on improving EFL vocabulary acquisition than word-based input does.
