The One Of Studies About A Series Of Plays Won The "Cao Yu Drama Literature Award"

Introduced through Europe and combined with traditional features of Chinese folk art, dramatic art with Chinese characteristics has gone through a development of a hundred years. This paper systematically studied and analyzed aesthetic qualities and development trends of rural life themed drama since New Era from the dual aspect of its history and development and focus on "Cao Yu Drama Literature Award" plays.Under the rapid medium change, the development of drama is experiencing great dilemma. Creators are required to rise to the challenge in terms of the script, stage form, communication strategies, etc. The rural life themed drama needs to look for innovative ways to win back its audiences.There are three chapters in this paper:The Chapter 1 defines the connotation of the rural theme drama and focuses on the full development of rural life themed drama, esp. the drama since New Era.The Chapter 2 systematically analyzes the aesthetic qualities of rural life themed drama using "Cao Yu Drama Literature Award" plays as samples; illustrated how and why these plays succeeded from the perspective of aesthetic qualities and stage features.Winning scripts are selected from different time periods and are analyzed from perspective of themes, narratives, and characters. The criteria of the theme evaluation include:whether it reflects the reality of rural life; whether it truly expressed the emotions of the farmers; whether it brings the audience spiritual solace and food for thought. Forms of narrative are studied from two perspectives:narrative methods/techniques and language style. Research on methods and techniques, mainly to study its narrative structure, is helpful to determine which/what kind of stage performance would be more suitable. The language study focuses on the usage of regional dialects. Regional dialects can not only well demonstrate regional characteristics and culture, but also help to define the similar trends and styles from different plays on the same regions. In addition, the typified and stylized characters are vital important part of the script analysis. The character traits and practical significance, the basic standards of "Cao Yu Drama Literature Award", affect the acceptance and interpretation of the audience to the play and determine the play’s ability to attract audience.The study of the stage characteristics of the stage are conducted on the above works. From the stage situation, stage style, stage scheduling, music/sound, stage art, stage rhythm, lines, etc, combined with the theory of paying attention of both "dramatic features and public acceptance", the gaming and entertainment spirit of the stage are measured and a stage mechanism that could fit for the creation of rural life themed drama and the demands of the time is explored.The Chapter 3 lays out the problems and dilemma of the development of the rural life themed drama, from the perspectives of audience groups, the psychology of audience interpretation, and communication tools, with "Cao Yu Drama Literature Award" plays as samples. How will rural life themed drama advance with the times while keeping the traditional aesthetic qualities? How will rural life themed drama break seek out innovation and break through under the medium change? Explorations are made in this Chapter.
