Research On The Performance Characteristics Of Animation Role

A successful animation work is connected with many factors, among which the performing arts of the animated character plays a key role. If ignored, it can hardly leave the audience a deep impression and be called a success even with advanced production technology and superior image quality. Therefore, a genuinely excellent animation director must be capable of observing and studying human emotion in his daily life. Applying what he has mastered through his observation to his animation work, the director thus can offer his audience a vivid performance of his character. In this sense, the research of the performing features of the character can help enhance the artistic influence of animation works as well as the animation workers’ professional competence.The main content of this thesis contains three parts: the first one is concerned with the concept, classification and characteristics of performing. The paper first gives a summary to the respective features of visual performing arts, drama performance, musical performance, opera performance and animation performance. By comparing animation performance with other kinds, the author generalizes their artistic styles. The second one deals with the specific features of the performing style of animation characters. Using those of America and Japan for example, the thesis presents an analysis of the performing features and advantages of their aniamtion characters. The third part shifts the focus to that of China. On the one hand, the author specifically analyzes the shortcomings of domestic cartoon performances and the reasons; on the other hand, the solutions to improving the performance are provided.
