In 2014 Forum on literature and art meeting, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasizes that the most important thing of promoting cultural prosperity and development is to create a worthy outstanding works for our great nation and age. In recent years, the art of Latin dance shows a good momentum of development, it emerges out many outstanding works, and complies with the requirements of the development of culture. Through collecting a large number of data about Latin, this paper analyzes the collision of the art form of "Latin" which reflects Western culture and Chinese traditional culture. Although Latin develops very fast after it was introduced into China, and has a certain effect, it also has some bad phenomenon, such as its short development time, the poor foundation and weak theoretical research etc. At the same time the external perspective is easy to mistakenly believe that the art of Latin dance is equivalent to competitive Latin dance, and confuse the two things, it is bad for development of the art of Latin dance in China. Therefore, it is necessary to compare the similarities and differences between the art of Latin dance and competitive Latin dance in order to promote integration development art of Latin dance and competitive Latin dance.By using the contrast of the art of Latin dance and competitive Latin dance as the research object, and some methods like reference literature, expert interviews, logical reasoning method, observation method and comparison method, this paper analyzes and compares the similarities and differences between the art of Latin dance and competitive Latin dance, and it gives a comprehensive description about their concepts, basic features, the use of "five dances", communication channels, dance style, music and clothing and other aspects so as to distinguish them clearly. According to the analysis on the art of Latin dance and competitive Latin dance, this paper draws the following conclusions:1, The art of Latin dance and competitive Latin dance both come from the Latin dance, but they are essentially different in concept.2, In character, the art of Latin dance and competitive Latin dance are common characters, such as artistic, creative, competitive, normative and ornamental. But the main features of the art of Latin dance are the artistic and creative, and competitive Latin dance focuses more on the embodiment of competitive and normative.3, The art of Latin dance and competitive Latin dance also display the technology action and style characteristics of the five dances:samba, rumba, Cha Cha, bullfight dance. Differences are:the art of Latin dance can be appropriately combined with Chinese classical dance, Chinese folk dance, ballet, modern dance, jazz dance and other dance elements to express the theme more accurately. However, competitions has clear rules for five dances using in competitive Latin dance.4, Whether it is competitive Latin dance or the art of Latin dance, it can not escape from the Latin dance itself five dance styles, but the art of Latin dance also incorporate other dance styles, it has richer dance styles. From the dancers’ technical style, the individual differences of the dancers are an important characteristic to distinguish the dancers’ technical style.5, The art of Latin dance and competitive Latin dance has gotten various degree of development in our country, the media, race, education are the main routes of transmission, but it’s very different emphasis, for art of Latin dance, its transmission in the race and education needs to be strengthened.6, Music and costumes play an important role in competitive Latin dance and art of Latin dance, but they are different in the selection and application of music, costumes.
