A Study On China Images In The Documentary Films Of New Millennium

China image is an integrated unity containing deep meanings, which not only includes the total images of the long history, but also the different images in the same period All these images, as part of China image, formed the unitive and changeable unity of Chinese image. China image could be the image created by foreigners as“spectators” or by the imagination of Chinese people themselves. It is the impressions producing naturally in the process of the communications between China and other countries. These impressions influence the communications between China and other nations and self-positioning.With development of new media, documentary films became an important tool of cultural diffusion gradually. It is the important media for China to create its own images. Documentary film plays an important role in creating China image, due to this, this thesis in the position of China itself, taking the representative documentary films of this new century as studied objects, analyzed the city image, rural image,individual image, people image, diet image, emotion image, culture image and so on as well as the characteristics of these images with theories of image. By this way, it found out the problems of these images, which provided some advices for creating China image and positioning China itself.This thesis includes five chapters. Chapter 1 introduced the development of documentary film in this new century and how China image is felt and accepted. The main parts of this thesis are chapter 2, chapter 3 and chapter 4, which explained the types of image and summarized the characteristics of images in the documentary films.Chapter 5 rethought the images that created by the documentary films of new millennium and found out the basis of these images and the problems of them.
