With the development of international trade, trade disputes are also increasing.Currently most scholars both at home and abroad study the international trade dispute from political, economic, legal and cultural aspects, less of them do analysis from the engagement perspective, covering engage manners and engagement resources reflected in discourse forms. Taking China-EU Photovoltaic trade dispute as the study object,according to the case processing, this thesis is dedicated to study its engagement resources based on the engagement system of Appraisal theory put forward by Martin.In this thesis, both quantitative and qualitative analysis methods are adopted.Qualitative analysis method is mainly applied in the analysis of engaging manner which pushes the development of the case and the realization of engagement resources in discourse forms through which we can see how the addresser establishes and keeps stable relations with audiences by tactically utilizing the means of heteroglossia.Quantitative analysis method is used to analyze the distribution of engagement resource and its frequency of occurrences in the speech. Through the quantitative analysis method, it is able to help listeners or readers clearly seize the speaker’s or the addresser’s main stance, viewpoint and attitude.Through the empirical study, the results of this thesis are as followings: At the macro level, the participants of two parties successfully pushes the development of the case via various engage channels/mode, such as proclamation, open letters, the hearing,press conference, public/ private negotiation, and the mass media etc. At the Micro level, through analysis of the engagement resources in discourse forms, this thesis finds out that the addresser or the speaker can skillfully convey his or her stances via heteroglossia, explicitly or implicitly negotiate with other voices in the context, thus the relationship between the addresser and the addressee is established and being close and then further persuade the audience to back his position. Because of the complexity of the China-EU PV trade dispute, this thesis just did a tentative study from the Engagement respects. It is also hope that this thesis can provide references or make some contributions to the future study of international trade dispute and the evaluation of engagement system.
