A Preliminary Study On The Live Recording Techniques Of String Quartet

The prototype of string quartet first appeared in some works of the early 18th century. And the music genre of modern string quartet was gradually established by Haydn. Then, through the development of some composers like Mozart and Beethoven, string quartet became one of the most important music genres of chamber music. Over the course of its 300 years’development, the works of string quartet in different periods have various stylistic features. So it is necessary to use different recording methods to record. This thesis studies the music form of string quartet first and then though the compared analysis with its recording instances summarizes the live recording methods for different periods and different styles of string quartet works.This thesis consists of four parts. Chapter one analyses the music morphology of string quartet, including the composition of string quartet instruments and the distribution of seats. Chapter two studies and analyses the diversity deeply of audio style in the different periods of string quartet works. Chapter three is mainly analyses and comparing the string quartet works which I recorded by different recording techniques and stereo recording methods, thereby come up with a general method of the string quartet work recording, and provide more references to make a plan for the live recording of string quartet.
