The Translation Report On The Big Trend Of Hainan International Tourist Destination (Excerpt)

This is a translation report on the translation of the Chapter5in "The Big Trend of Hainan International Tourist Destination", mainly introducing the ecological advantages of Hainan, and main measures and significances of building the environmental protection zone. The purpose of this report is to analyze the problems in the translation process and related countering strategies. The original text is written by Chinese scholars, its language features are very obvious and may lead to Chinglish easily, which has the value for study.In order to avoid Chinglish, the communicative translation method is adopted to make the target readers feel the same with those of the original language.In the report, the characteristics and reasons of Chinglish have been put forward. Then examples are given and countering strategies are analyzed respectively from lexical, syntax and discourse levels. In terms of lexical level, it starts from redundancy and semantic repetition; in terms of syntax level, it concentrates on the use of preposition, non-finite verbs and nouns, passive voice. proper arrangement of information in English sentence structure, frequent use of connectives in English; in terms of discourse level, it focuses on adjustment of logic order and omission of redundant part.Finally, the interpreter puts forward her findings and suggestions. If one really wants to improve translations skills, both solid language foundation and transfer of thinking modes are needed.
