The Vitality Of Buzzwords

Catchword has rich meanings. By systematically learning of catchword we can improve the effectiveness of communication. And through the study of catchword, we can see the changes and development of the vocabulary system during the period of social transformation, and then understand the contemporary society and people’s spiritual life. In this paper, based on the scientific definition of catchword, we have explored the characteristics of catchword. At the same time by using the structure of the cathchword as motivation and word choice principle, we have drawn the diachronic development curve and made an account of the characteristics of change according to the three major factors influencing the vitality of catchword. Finally catchword is combined with language specification problems, in order to solve the corresponding problems of language specification.This paper is divided into four chapters altogether.The introduction part mainly introduces the research object and research significance. The research ideas and methods and corpus sources have been carried out on the basis of previous studies.The first chapter mainly makes a scientifically definition of catchword. In the first section research of catchword definition are summarized. In the second section gives a scientific definition of catchword, determines the research scope in this paper.The third section mainly summarizes the characteristic of catchword. The fourth section catchword is distinguished with other lexical category.The second chapter mainly investigates the structure motivations of catchword.The first section introduces phonological motivation, including euphony words and reiterative words. The second section analyzes vocabulary motivation including compressed into words, creating new words, using new morphemes and absorbing foreign words into new words. The third section analyzes grammar motivation,focuses on "bei XX" structure and "adverb + noun" structure. Section four is the study of the semantic motivation including semantic extension, semantic update, semantic color changes. Finally, section five is the analysis of rhetoric motivation, it illustrates four types of rhetoric: metaphor, parody, intended misinterpretation and metonymy.The third chapter mainly introduces the vitality of catchword, namely the action,live and develop ability of catchword. The first section mainly makes a clear definition of catchword vitality and then summaries the specific reflection of catchword vitality. In the second section it is concluded that the facts which influence the vitality of catchword are frequentness, spread ratio and circulation degree. The third section mainly quantifies the catchword vitality, including frequency, generality degree and circulation degree, and use the formula to calculate the specific value. The fourth section, on the basis of the third section, concludes the features of catchword diachronic development curve, including growth type, decay type, successive type and discontinuous type, convex type and sunken type. And the fourth section mainly summarizes the reasons why catchword has vitality.The fourth chapter mainly discusses catchword with the language specification problems. The first section mainly analyzes what is a scientific view of language specification. In the second section catchword is combined with language specification problems, specific ideas have been put forward.
