A Practice Report On The Interpreting Compensation Strategies In Tour Escort Consecutive Interpreting

Tour escort interpreting is a multi-natural job, which requires the interpreter to provide liaison interpreting during guiding a tour. After entering the 21 st century, the inbound tourism industry of the Northeast provinces in China has entered rapid development phase, and the inbound guests number has increased year by year. The writer is honored to have the chance to guide three tours and provide the escort interpreting.This practical report is based on the escort interpreting experiences of three tours during 2012 to 2013, in which the writer analyzes the interpreting cases and tries to conclude the interpreting strategies of interpreting compensation that the interpreters should pay attention to.A tour escort interpreter plays three roles when guiding the tour: tour guide, foreign affairs participant and escort interpreter. These roles have their own requirements for the tour escort interpreter. Firstly, as a tour guide, one should provide superior service to ensure the journey accomplished, meanwhile, spread the rich Chinese history and culture. Secondly, as a foreign affairs participant, one should be friendly and welcome the guests with open arms, moreover, protect national dignity and interest, that is to say, to be hospitality but neither humble nor pushy. The last but the most important is as an escort interpreter, one should be well prepared to accumulate plenty information and vocabularies before the task. During the task, one should make proper use of interpreting strategies to compensate the loses caused by cultural diversity and the limitations of the interpreting circumstance. And should try hard to make the interpretation keep the principles of “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance”, thus to ensure the output message be reached smoothly.
