The Analysis On Operation And Official Management Of Houbu By The Unearthed Slips Of Jiaquhouguan

The operation of Houbu plays an very important part in the frontier fortress system as well as the official management,by which the whole operation of the frontier fortress organization has been greatly influenced.The control of affairs in Houbu is related to the integrity of the frontier,and the key to the control is officials in Houbu.In previous scholars’ study,although the operation of Houbu and the official management are widely involved,their study are scattered and do not form a complete system.In this paper,through unearthed slips associated with Hou department in Jiaquhouguan,combining previous research results the main subject is systematically analyzing the control mode of four function of military defense,logistics,storage and posts and official management by Houbu.It may provide some supplementary research to the frontier fortress study.The article arranges the relative slips about military defense and logistics of Hou department,exploring and analyzing the specific duties and operation of Hou department in the aspects of military defense and logistics.The part of Military defense of Hou department is considerd;firstly the daily record,presentiment system, beacon-fire passing,self-defense and other relative duties of the frontier organization are been texually researched,then the certain duties of Houbu is documented by slips,and the operating ways of these duties is discussed and studies.The part of logistics of Hou department is considerd continually,in the way of Layer-Layer progressive the article confirms that Hou department has the duties of food and salt supply,as well as forage for livestock firstly, then does specific research on the distribution process of food and salt as well as the preparing process of forage for livestock.By arranging the relative slips of grain storage and posts,these unique function of Hou department,of which the specific studies and controlling ways are studied.In the two aspects,the article does literature document about them firstly,then combined with slips to prove that the grain storage and posts function are produced to adapted to the development of the frontier organization,not owned by all Houbu;the grain storage and posts are served for the whole frontier organization,not for any Hou department. In a more step apain,the article does research on the the specific studies and controlling ways of grain storage and posts.The last but not least,the systematic measures of officials management in Hou department is studied by relative slips arrangement.The part of officials management is considered,with the relative literatures about specific studies of Hou department, the article firstly types the officials management has four parts:selection,assessment, supervision,rewards and punishment,then exploring and analyzing the specfic management of these parts of officials management in the Houbu.Dependent on the foregoing conditions,the charge and official management of H oubuare indispensable parts of frontier fortress.The charge of Houbu shares the respo-nsibility of Houguan,takes the lead of beacon tower.The official management makes a strict selection of officials of Houbu,fostering a large quantities of front- line men.
