Jane Addams( 1860-1935) is a social activist in American society during the Industrial transformation period. American historian give her "Progressives reformers," "feminist" and "pacifist" as historical orientation. Addams create d "settled rescue home" into the community to help working people. During the First World War,she was commit ted to fighting for international peace, not hesitate to offend the mainstream of American public opinion, touched the world, became the first American women in the history of Nobel Prize winners.Father’s words and actions, Lincoln’s stature, played a cornerstone role in the formation of Addams’ view of li fe. Her Life depression after family misfortune prompted her to search for the real meaning of life. Travel in eur ope broaden her horizons,enrich her knowledge.The way to alleviation social poverty of Toynbee Hall made her s ee the direction of of life, find out the road which she recognize valuable.In the era of Addams, American was in a period of most acute social conflicts. In the city society, ordinary workers lived a hard life, immigrants were living distress. The problem of poverty, prostitution, labor conflicts, bec ome Striking phenomenon. Addams found her own thoughts and opinions.Through the social practice of helping the poor, Addams formed her social reform ideas.It also made her reali ze that to improve the society, they need more support. This naturally made her into the world of Americanpolitics,and finally into the whole world. Addams’ s vision extended from Chicago to Illinois,then sweeping the country, a t the end of the world.Addams’ realm of life are also constantly sublimation.
