A Translation Report Of General Security Agreement

The agreement is a kind of written material which signed by the two transaction parties through mutual agreement to protect their respective legitimate rights. The agreement is a legal document with the characteristics of seriousness and objectiveness. In the course of translation, it is the same as other translation material, it not only should be translated appropriately and completely, but also should be translated faithfully and smoothly. However, as a legal binding formal document the agreement is different from other translation material in some aspects. From the respect of language characteristics, the language of agreement is formal and rigorous. As to the sentence structure, the agreement has the high degree of logic, it always appears in the form of clause embedded in another clause. Besides, the agreement is involved in a lot of terms, such as: finance, insurance and law. Therefore, in addition to the basic translation ability, the translator needs to know some knowledge on law and agreement. Meanwhile, it is necessary to accumulate some terms of finance, insurance and law, and to learn some official expressions of agreement translation.This is a translation report on General security agreement between the two parties: Princes Domain private limited company as the Grantor, and the Oak Global Financial Services private limited company as the Secured Party, which achieved in 2014. This agreement stipulates the rights and the obligations of the Grantor and the Secured Party respectively and clearly. This translation report is presented in four parts to analyze this agreement in a further way. i.e. The first part is the introduction of the translation task which includes the source of the text, the basic introduction of the text and the meaning of it. The second part demonstrates the process of translation including the preparation before the translation and the process of translation report modification. In the part of preparation before the translation, it highlights the characteristics of the translation text, some terms appearing in the text, and it takes the “skopos theory” as the translation theoretical guidance. The third part reveals translation difficulties, analyses of some examples and some translation methods, such as: linear translation method, inverse translation method, amplification method and so on. The forth part shows the summary of the translation practice and what the translator should do to improve his/her translation ability in the future.
