A Comparison Between Chinese And Western Heroism Through Films And Television Works

Hero is the eternal topic since ancient times. As an indispensable part of national culture, heroism culture not only is the most precious treasure of human culture, but also it has a big influence on human social life to a certain extent. Film is a very familiar media for people; it is not only entertainment in people’s daily lives, it also has the function of the different cultures’ communication in the world. This article will provide Chinese and Western heroism as the object to study the heroism in the film as auxiliary means, from two aspects——the concept and expression, and to analysis the Chinese and western heroism’s similarities and differences and the reasons of the differences of the Chinese and Western heroism, to understand the cultural differences of China and West, to avoid and reduce the misunderstanding of China and West in the cultural exchange in the future, and to promote the cultural exchanges between China and West.This article is divided into four parts.The first part is the introduction, the main contents is to introduce the research object, research significance, the comprehensive research and study methods. The second part mainly introduces the concept and forms of the Chinese and Western heroism, including the form of expression of British chivalry and American heroic conception which belong to the Western heroism, and the concepts and forms of Emprise spirit, Swordsman spirit and Revolutionary heroism which all belong to the Chinese heroism. The third part is the content of the Chinese and Western heroism’s comparison of different reasons of the form and the formation. The fourth part is the new hero in China in the new period.In this paper, through the comparison between Chinese and Western heroism films, we can found that: although Chinese and Western heroism both are heroism, but there are still some differences in the presentation of the concept and the actual performance forms in the conception and form of expression, especially the four part which are responsibility、loyalty、 beliefs and emotions, there are many differences between them; and that is because Chinese and Western heroism which belong to the two different cultural system, and influenced by the different cultures to form the different values, then different thoughts and actions lead to the formation of heroism, and the form and meaning of movie in Chinese heroism and Western heroism have the syncretic trend gradually.
