In the application with dialectical logic model of “dual fusion” from Chinese philosophical thinking, this thesis is trying to put forward new thoughts for the change of paradigm in translation studies, and also contemplate the paradigm of translation theory in the framework of formal logics of “binary opposition” in western philosophy. This thesis studies the “dual fusion” model in translation studies. By systemizing the scholars’ reflections and solutions to the current “binary opposition” logic model in translation studies, the thesis holds that translation studies is always influenced by traditional concepts of classical categorization, and there are numerous concepts of binary opposition which are prevalent in translation studies, like liberal translation and free translation, form and meaning, similarity in form and resemblance in spirit, foreignization and domestication, translatability and untranslatability. Although many scholars at home and abroad have realized that the “binary opposition” model has greatly hindered translation research, the related researches have been mostly on sorting out or making comparative analysis of “binary opposition” model, or seeking to find a solution within the framework of “binary opposition” model. Therefore, this thesis introduces Chao Yuean-Jen’s “type” and “token” to analyze the dialectical relationship of“type” and “token” or “the Logos(Dao)” and “the Utensils(Qi)”. The thesis points out that“type” refers to “the Logos(Dao)”, and “token” refers to “the Utensils(Qi)”. And in translation studies, “the Logos(Dao)” and “the Utensils(Qi)” are just the “source text” and the “target text”,two of which could be interchangeable and conform to the philosophy of “the Logos(Dao) and the Utensils(Qi)”. Through comparative analysis of the source text and target text, the thesissupports the point that translation studies is not a simply relationship of binary opposition, but a deep relationship of dual fusion. After systematic comparison and analysis, the thesis comes to the conclusion: the source text and target text in translation studies is not the simple relationship of binary opposition, but a deep relationship of dual fusion. Translation is a process of evolution, and also a process from binary opposition to dual fusion.
