The increasing export of high technologies in China requires the training in other languages to be offered, in which the translation quality of technical texts directly affects its training effect. Therefore, translators should ensure proper translation theory to be adopted to guide the translation process.Register theory can provide significant guidance to C-E translation of technical texts: first, field plays a decisive role in the choice of lexis, including technical terms,,compound nouns, and the translation of specialized knowledge; second, mode is directly related with formality which can guide the translation of non-subject sentences and Chinese run-on sentences; third, tenor implies the relationship between the participants, i.e. since technical texts are used to instruct the readers, impersonality and acceptability should be considered.Given this, based on the author’s translation practice of Chinese technical texts—UAV Assembly Specifications, the thesis elaborates and discusses the application of register theory in C-E translation of technical texts by using concrete examples and accordingly summarizes principles and suggested steps.
