Study On Chinese Contemporary Cartoon Canvas

With the development of science and technology and the accelerating rhythm of life, we have been in an era centered on visuals. Text, as a primary way of communication, has been gradually replaced by images that inherently contain much more information. As the involvement of mass media and worldwide spread of“cartoon culture” coming along, cartoon elements have gained their popularity in artworks.Canvas(oil painting), a major form in art, has undergone the popularity. Although the primary attempt to create ‘Cartoon Canvas’ meant to study and innovate, which had promoted the development of oil painting language as well as cartoon culture,now the Chinese art world has been flooded with the newborn ‘Cartoon Canvas’. Lots of new raised questions have caused artists to reflect on its past and face its future.This paper will narrate the origins and the characteristics of cartoon canvas. I will probe deeply into “cartoon canvas” and give a rational explanation about its existence,then summarize the significance and problems about Chinese contemporary cartoon canvas and thus explore the direction of “cartoon canvas” in our country.
