| Higher vocational English course is considered as one of the important basic required courses in the higher educational curriculum system. But now the higher vocational English teaching is facing a series of problems, so it is imperative to reform the college English. Meanwhile the reforms should be combined with the higher vocational education’s own situation and find a suitable way for development.This paper is a practice study of the reform in higher vocational English. First the paper states the research background and significance,briefly introducing the theories of the zone of proximal development, level teaching research and English level teaching research etc.And then, by sampling investigation and questionnaires survey, the paper analyses the major problems that higher vocational English teaching is facing, for example, students may have a different English levels when entering the college,different understanding on the difficulties of teaching materials and same teaching methods may have different effects on students with different English foundation, etc.To solve these problems, the paper designs a experiment of English level teaching based on the zone of proximal development theory in a vocational college of Hunan Province.In the process of implementation of English level teaching, the students have been divided into two classes according to their present English level, and then teachers conduct teaching with different teaching objectives, teaching contents and teaching methods in the two classes to guarantee the best teaching effects.Through the experiment research of English Lever teaching, it aims to get some conclusions. Whether English lever teaching can effectively improve students’ English performance, stimulate students’ interests in learning and improve teachers’ professional skill.After a year of practice, by analyzing the students’ grades before and after the level teaching, making questionnaires survey and interviewing with students and teachers, the conclusion of this paper is that English level teaching can not only effectively improve students’ English achievement and increase their learning interests, but also can improve the English teaching abilities of teachers. |
