Research On The Huating Cemetery

Huating site is located at the junction of the northern Jiangsu Province and southern Shandong Province,consisting of the burial area and residential area.Due to the influence of Haidai(海岱)Cultural District and Taihu Cultural District,the cultural landscape of Huating site showing characteristics of the coexistence of Dawenkou(大汶口)Culture factors and the Liangzhu(良渚)Culture factors.Therefore,at present,there are still some disputes about the periodization and the cultural nature of the cemetery in academia.Through comparing the relevant material of Dawenkou Culture and Liangzhu Culture, this paper restages Huating cemetery by combing the methods of the horizon with typology. And on this basis, the layout of the cemetery, the funeral customs,social differentiation and other issues will be discussed.The thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter 1, introduction. This part briefly introduces the excavated profile of the Huating site, summarizes the status of the current academic research, and points out the direction and focus of the further research.Chapter 2,periodization and pedigree of the pottery in Huating Cemetery.Huating Cemetery can be divided into three stages according to the periodization of the typical pottery in it.Through cultural elements analysis method,the paper sorts out the pedigree relationship of the typical pottery from the first period to the third period of Huating Cemetery,and puts forward that the major pottery in the first period of Huating Cemetery belongs to Dawenkou Culture.As for the second and third period,the pottery of Dawenkou Culture is still dominant.However,the number of Liangzhu Culture`s and Xuejiagang(薛家岗)Culture`s pottery can not be ignored.Chapter 3, multi-people burial and burial grade. This chapter takes the funerary jade as the starting point to grade the graves by combining with the phenomenon ofmartyrdom and pottery factors.Chapter 4, cemetery layout observation. According to the distributions of different ranks of graves in different periods, it can be initially drawn social differentiation condition of Huating Cemetery.Chapter 5, conclusion. Main ideas of the thesis are generalized and summarized.
