The Changes Of The National Religious Policy And The Response Of The Christian Church Since Late Qing Dynasty

Church is the missionary base and fortress of the Christian religion. Its creation and development is the history of the development of the Christian religion and the history of cultural exchange as well. The introduction of Modern Christianity into China is another mass of cultural exchange and collision between China and the west after the Catholicism was introduced into China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It has had a profound impact on both China and the West. What’s more it has become the focus for scholars’ research. Since late Qing dynasty, to adapt dynamic political situation, religious policies had been constantly changed which therefore influenced the development of Christian religion in China.This dissertation based on Wu Mafang Christ Church of Yiyang city as the main object of study, is mainly divided into two parts: introduction, and body.The preamble illustrates the domestic research trend of the selected topic and the objective that researchers desire to achieve. Meanwhile, to stress the significance of the research and to complete the thesis, I selected the Wu Mafang Christ church as a case study. The main body is divided into four chapters. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the basic situation of the church. In Chapter 2: being influence by various phases of religious policy, the church was systematically analyzed and comprehensively assessed in accordance with changes of the religious policy in the different historical period. Chapter 3 elaborates the development condition of the church after reestablishing of the religious policy and open-to-the-outside policy from the organizational structure of the Church, disciples, and Christian activities. Chapter 4 discusses the prospects of religious work of the Wu Mafang Christian church and put forward feasible suggestions which are on the basis of summarizing the historical experience and the reality of development.Comprehensiveness as analysis, comparison as methods, and time as nodes, the paper discusses the effects and strategies of the Christian church through different religious policies at every phases.The purport of the writing is to study the effects of Wu Mafang Christian church owing to the different religious policies.To some extent, it can offer references for the development of the church and Christian religion in the new period.
